From 2005 to 2017, he is most widely known for his work as the primary architect and lead strategist for North Carolina’s suite of clean energy policies and regulatory strategies that catapulted NC into national leadership in solar, clean energy jobs, rural clean energy economic development, and opening doors to inclusive financing. Turning this vision into hundreds of policy decisions cultivated the State’s market ecosystem and laid the evidence-based path opening the possibility for full power sector decarbonization and NC’s current carbon law.
Ivan has won several business and climate leadership awards in the southeast, is a SAFE Energy Security Fellow, and a recent RMI eLab Accelerator coach. Ivan holds an MPP and MEM from Duke University, where he focused on global change sciences, energy, economic globalization, and poverty and B.A.s in Political Science and Environmental Studies from The George Washington University.
